We are a demonstration garden, meaning that this is a open space for anyone to come in and learn skills, grow food, and contribute to one of Wagga’s most valuable community areas. Unlike traditional community gardens, all spaces in Wagga’s Demo Gardens is shared, this is community land! Come in, offer what help you can and take home some delicious organic produce! We have people from all areas that can volunteer in many different ways and we appreciate any input into the space.
The Gardens site was established on an old brick pit on land belonging to Wagga Wagga City Council. From a bare beginning on dead soil, the Gardens have grown to include a large teaching garden, seedling and propagation nursery, pizza oven and BBQ area, fish and frog pond, poultry houses, wheelchair accessible gardens, toilet block, orchard and, extensive paved areas, irrigation systems, dry tolerant gardens, compost bins, worm farms, herb garden and therapeutic spaces.
The Gardens is also a excellent space for creativity, particularly with recycled and reclaimed materials over the years we have produced ‘bush’ furniture pieces, mosaic tables, worm farms, compost units, chicken ‘tractors’, raised garden edging, easels, planters and many other wonderful products.
The Gardens is an important community resource and works with various groups on ‘skills’ development whilst providing a space for workshops, open days and community events. The many external projects bring connectivity with various groups and allow for long term partnerships with the Gardens. Please see Our Supourters and Partners Page.
