Demonstration Gardens Wagga Wagga
A huge thank you to everyone who assisted and participated in the Demonstration Gardens Spring Dinner held on the 29th of October 2010.
Organisers Casey Ankers and Jim Rees were overwhelmed with the response to their fundraising dinner.
“We could have sold out two dinners”, says Casey Ankers. “The combination of local food prepared by a local chef, Justin Small, accompanied by local music from Rob Moss, and a great guest speaker, George Main, obviously resonated strongly with the community”.
Jim and Casey are the supervisors of the Demonstration Gardens, a community environmental education project run from the Demonstration Gardens site in Shaw Street, Wagga Wagga. The Gardens runs workshops on such topics as backyard sustainability and earth building, teaching the community how to grow organic food and use recycled materials to create garden spaces. The Gardens has worked on a number of community projects including the establishment of a school garden at Ashmont primary school, extensive works at the Environment Education Centre and initial works for the restoration of the Wagga Beach. The Gardens was established in 2001.
The Spring Dinner is a major fundraiser for the Gardens, with money raised to be directed to the creation of an aviary orchard and children’s garden within the Demonstration Gardens site.
“While we were sad to turn people away from the Spring Dinner, we do encourage the community to come along to our Open Day this Saturday 6 November”, says Jim. “Come and tour the Gardens, share some pizza, engage with your community, ask questions, become a member of the Gardens or buy plants and produce”.
The Demonstration Gardens Open Day will be held this Saturday 6 November at the Demonstration Gardens site in Shaw Street, Wagga, from 9am till 4pm.
